Prep sleepover!

End of Term 3 always means a very special event for our preps- Prep Sleepover!!! The prep sleepover is the start of our camps program. Our preps go home at the end of the day for a shower and to change their clothes then come back to school ready for the sleepover.

Last night we set up our beds.

Then we did a scavenger hunt. We had to find things in the classrooms and tick them off the list. One thing we had to find was something with wheels and we also had to sing Emily a song!

The we had some secret prep sleepover business to deal with- sorry, no photos of that allowed! Then it was into our pyjamas, we brushed our teeth and hopped in to bed. We watched the movie ‘Minions’ when we were snuggled up in our beds. It was very funny. Then it was sleep time. We all had a good sleep, well, actually, not all the adults had a good sleep!

This morning we had a most delicious breakfast (Thanks Kirsty for the pancakes and fruit) and some visitors came along to have breakfast with us.

The All-Star Shop

The All-Stars were busy setting up a shop during the last couple of weeks of Term 3. Everyone was busily raiding the recycling home at home for cartons, boxes, bags and jars and there is now quite a lot of stock on our shelves.

Students have worked in teams to make signs for the store and lots of pretend food to sell.  The All-Stars have had lots of fun playing shops and buying food to use with the kitchen set. We are looking forward to lots more shopping in Term Four.

When Tylden came to Malmsbury

Last term the Grades Prep to 2 from Tylden Primary School came to visit Malmsbury.  They came to have some science activities with us because it is Science Week!

We were all in groups and we did one activity at a time.  There were five activities.  We made animal pictures.  We all made different kinds of animals that could live all around the world.  We got to create butterflies that can hide on different surfaces.  This is called camouflage.  We were doing some leaf stuff.  We put leaves in a science book and had to draw under them.  We got to take these home and we can put more science-y things in them.  In another activity we had clues of animals and we tried to guess what the animal was.  This was called ‘What am I?’.  We also had fun blowing up balloons to make rocket balloons.

At recess we ate jelly with a frog in it.  It was called Frog in a Pond.  The Tylden kids had made them for us.  We made Snake in Creeks for them.  We had a BBQ for lunch and we ate sausages with the kids from Tylden.  We liked eating the sausages!  We got to play with our Tylden friends outside.  At recess we had to have inside play because it was rainy, it was a bit wet at lunchtime too but we still played outside.

Some people already knew some of the Tylden kids, but there were lots of new faces too.  Now we know some new friends from Tylden Primary School.

What did you do for Science Week at your school?

What is your favourite science activity?

When I am 100…

Today we were imaging what we might look like when we are 100 years old.  We got to imagine all the amazing modern inventions that might be added to our bodies.

We were working with our buddies. They helped us with our writing and some of the drawing.
We were thinking about what we will be like when we grow up and what things we might like. It was good to work with our buddies because the writing was easier because they helped us.

There was some amazing work being done. Everyone was working hard and no one was being silly or mucking around. Maybe this was because we were having fun, also because our buddies were here to help us.

What do you think YOU might be like when you are 100 years old?
What inventions or amazing things do you think we might see in the future?

The Tree of Awesome

This is our big Tree of Awesome. It is for the awesome stuff we do at school. We are making because we don’t have enough room left on our Great Wall of Awesome.

To make it, first we had to make the tree, then we had to put bark and leaves on. We had to use lots of different paper to make the tree. We had to cut the leaves out and glue them on the tree.

The pictures on the leaves are of people, rainbows, horses, princesses, playgrounds, Darth Vader, Spiderman, smiley faces and some other stuff. Some leaves have words written on them.  The leaves are all about getting along. Getting along is our You Can Do It key for this term.

When making our Tree we had to work together to get it done. To get along with each other we have to work together. We had to get along well while we working. While we were working, people were saying lots of encouraging things like “That’s really good,” and ”

Good job

“.  We were reminded that saying nice things and being encouraging and supportive is an important part of getting along with each other.

A reflection of our week – 17 June 2013

It has been a very busy week in the Prep-One room.  Here are some reflections on our week…

In our writing we have been planning a story book.  This makes some of us feel happy because we like writing.  Some of us are excited to make a book because now we now know how to tell a story we can tell lots more.

We finished our heart maps, which most of us really enjoyed making.   They show what we love.  We are going to put these on the Great Wall of Awesome and use them to get ideas for our writing.

Molly, Rosie and Natalie have been selling rocks this week.  Some people put on funny shows to get more people to buy rocks.  All the money goes to the Parent’s Club and the guide Dogs.  They raised a huge $44!

In Art we have been painting without paintbrushes.  We have been using palette knives, pipettes and drinking straws and things from nature.  It has been fun and exciting because we didn’t know we could paint without paintbrushes.  Most of us love painting with a palette knife.  We feel very creative.

In French we have been talking about to say ‘hello’ goodbye’ and ‘how are you feeling?’ in French.  We are also learning how to introduce ourselves and where we live.  French makes us excited because it is really fun.

Almost all the All-Stars really enjoyed this week.

What did you enjoy most this week at school?

Tell us one thing you are really proud of achieving this week.
